About This Course

This course is designed to provide municipal officials including: auditors, municipal secretaries, treasurers, clerks, administrators and elected officials with relevant information regarding the basic concepts of bookkeeping and accounting principles.

This computer-based training module provides an introduction to fund accounting using accounting basics such as assets, liabilities and fund equity. This course will review double entry bookkeeping, monthly accounting cycles, realistic accounting transactions (including debit and credit exercises), vouchers, account reconciliation and related computer software. Participants will have an opportunity to review the Chart of Accounts and learn how it links to the Accounting System, the Annual Budget and the Annual Audit report. After completing this course, participants will have increased their knowledge of municipal financial record keeping and be better able to work within their local government on the annual budget and audit processes.

This course is a video recording, with quizzes incorporated.  Please complete a video course segment (not necessarily the entire course) before exiting to return later to complete remainder of course.
